Each January and February, the BRICKsters examine the African American experience. We read “Copper Sun” by Sharon Draper, which describes slave life from Africa through the Middle Passage to the brutality of plantation life. We take an in-depth look at the Jim Crow era and the people, organizations and events that shaped it. Finally, we look at certain events and perform them live for our parents. We incorporate Motown Music, the Civil Rights era, the Harlem Renaissance and much more. Please check out some of the performances.
